Three teams remain unbeaten

Three teams remain unbeaten this season in SEMHL action, though two of them have only played a single game.
Last week’s action saw the Portage Islanders secure wins over Carman and Morden for their 2-0 records.
The Altona Maroons and the Warren Mercs are also 1-0.
Altona Maroons 8
Winkler Royals 4
On Nov. 4, the Winkler Royals scheduled home game went on the road to Altona, thanks to the shutdown at the Winkler Arena.
As in their first game of the season, which they won by default, they allowed eight goals, and this time could only muster four.
The first period saw the Maroons dominate, scoring four goals from Tyler Penner (2), Mitch Doell and Blair Macaulay before the game was seven minutes old. Winkler’s Michael Moore scored once to end the first period with the Maroons ahead 4-1. In the second Cole Smith brought Winkler within two, but Logan McGuire, Haydon Friesen and Mitch Doell answered back for Altona. Winkler’s Cody Friesen added one more.
The third period saw Altona’s Sam Friesen and Winkler’s Marcus Neufeld score for the 8-4 final.
Portage Islanders 4
Morden Redskins 3
Nov. 4 also saw the Portage Islanders host the Morden Redskins.
The first period belonged to Portage as they went up 2-0 thanks to goals from Jon Gaudet and Robby Moar. In the second Morden tied the game thanks to a shorthanded marker from Tyler Peers and a goal from Keith Bially.
Morden’s Jordan Valentino gave Morden their first lead in the third, but Portage added two more thanks to Tanner Waldvogel and Derrick Brooks for the win.
Portage Islanders 4
Carman Beavers 3
Nov. 1 saw the first game of the season for Portage and Carman. In front of their home crowd the Beavers started well, owning the first period with a pair of goals from Aaron Lewadniuk and Jake Dudar.
The second period saw Portage come on strong, scoring three goals thanks to Rene Hunter, Adam Blight and Derrick Brooks.
Brooks would add one more at the midpoint in the third and although Carman’s Fraser Mirrlees answered back, the Beavers couldn’t find the tie goal.
The 0-2 Morden Redskins will host the 1-0 Warren Mercs Nov 8. Nov. 10 will se the 0-1 Carman Beavers host the 1-1 Winkler Royals and the Redskins host the 1-0 Altona Maroons.
Nov 11 will see the Royals host the unbeaten Portage Islanders in Morden.
Two 0-1 teams will face off Nov. 14 as Notre Dame hosts Carman.
