On Jan. 14, at approximately 2:50 p.m., Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) officers on routine patrol located a half-ton truck leaving a residence on Long Plain First Nation that matched the description of a suspected stolen truck.
Police followed the vehicle and a check on the license plate confirmed that it was the stolen truck in question.
Officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, but the suspect refused to pull over and took off at a high rate of speed. In an effort to lose the police unit, the suspect took off into a field just off of Highway 305 and subsequently got stuck in the deep snow. Police approached the vehicle where the driver exited and gave himself up to police.
The suspect, a 27-year-old male from Long Plain First Nation was arrested and taken into custody and faces several charges, including flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and failure to comply with release order.
The suspect has been remanded into custody.
