Local riders compete in barrel racing finals

Nine local girls were in Hamiota at the end of August for the finals of the Manitoba Barrel Racing Association.
Competitors included Taylor Reimer, Pam Kornelson, Mallory Mayert and Morgan Reimer of Morden, Lissane Frank of Darlingford and Emily Harder, Sarah Wiebe, Laney Harder and Carly Harder of Winkler.
Competitors for the event came from the Manitoba and Saskatchewan MBRA circuit with a handful of American riders as well.
The age categories are peewee (10 & under), youth (16 & under), open (any age) and select (50 & over). Open had 227, youth had 65, peewee had 25 and select had 16 competitors.
All the peewee competitors were awarded a prize for participating including Morgan Reimer, Laney Harder and Carly Harder were the peewees.
Each competitor received on run per day for each horse they have entered. The total runs for the weekend was 827 barrel runs.
The top competitors in each category in the open and youth division were awarded a saddle with prizes ranging from buckles, bridles, blankets, wallets, watches etc. for the other competitors in their division.
Taylor Reimer, Emily Harder, Sarah Wiebe, Pam Kornelson and Mallory Mayert had qualifying runs in their division to advance to Sunday’s short-go finals.
Taylor, Emily and Mallory were successful in their final run Sunday and placed in the 3D event.
